Agristo from Harelbeke has been awarded ‘The Lion for Export’ in the category of large companies
Today, Flanders Investment & Trade (FIT) has awarded ‘The Lions for Export’ in Ghent. The prizes are an award for Flemish companies who have exported exceptionally much over the last year.
“Major appreciation for our entire staff"
Agristo from Harelbeke-Hulse manufactures more than 200 frozen potato products. With its customers it exports this range of products to 116 countries . The company had 373 staff members in 2013 and an annual turnover of 242 million euros, of which 99 % was realized abroad. Especially the strong Flemish embedding of the firm was a strong asset, according to the jury.
“This is a major appreciation for all our co-workers who work hard day after day”, said Filip Wallays. Immediately he invited all his co-workers in ‘a small pub close to the company’. A company isn’t built in one day, that’s why I think about the founders. Behind all façades there is courage, entrepreneurship and a lot of hard work.” For Agristo export is essential.”We export 99 % of which 35 % outside Europe. In fact, we don’t consider export in Europe any longer as export.”
Mark Andries, principal private secretary of the Flemish prime minister-Geert Bourgeois (N-VA), stressed that the Flemish government wants to continue its efforts for more internationalisation of our companies. “Our link with abroad is our economical way of life. Per capita we export three times as much as export giant Germany.”
